Sigurd Bronger | The Weird and the Wonderful

Little of today's jewellery serves a practical function in the way fibulas and signet rings once did. In general, it now has a communicative function: jewellery as statement. About the wearer, for example, about a person's tastes, desires, dreams…

Galerie Ra presents jewellery that also primarily communicates the maker's message: an idea, a train of thought or a fascination. Sigurd Bronger has translated his passion for machines and instruments in a series of wearable constructions. Constructions in which natural materials (an egg, a sponge) or everyday materials (a sole of a shoe, a light bulb) are attached in meticulous, complex and ingenious ways. This focuses the attention on the materials, creating a new meaning and beauty; making the materials special and precious…

Presented in wooden boxes, which perfectly frame and protect each object, they can be viewed in the showcase - from a distance - as in a cabinet of curiosities. Worn on the body, the effect is special and tactile, while their absurdity adds a certain beneficent humour.
