Nel Linssen | Paper Jewellery

Before me lies a copy of a new book on Nel Linssen's oeuvre from 1986 to the present: paper jewellery, necklaces and bracelets, illustrated in full-colour and actual size. Ans van Berkum describes the artist's development in clear prose and in chronological order. Nel Linssen's jewellery is simultaneously minimalist and complex. It has evolved through countless experiments in which touch, sight and contemplation combine in an intensive interaction. This is not design in the intellectual sense, neither is it emotional
craftsmanship. It is a unique approach in which insight, skill and sensation urge each other on towards greater quality and finesse. It is an exceptionally labour-intensive and occasionally tedious process. Nel Linssen's determination and intensity have resulted in an impressive oeuvre, while forming a superb illustration of the preoccupation and life of an artist. The publication of this volume and the Ra retrospective are a tribute to both the work and the artist.
