In her latest work, Heartwear, Birgit Laken has interpreted the symbol of love and life in an exhilarating jewellery series. With ingenious manipulations she has turned the heart into a variety of necklaces, mainly in metal. Parts of the shape can fold, slide or hinge so that the object can be worn in different ways. The result is playful, even frivolous.

Her Heartwear jewellery has a subtle texture and colour which produces elegant, sensitive objects - even when not worn. The titles suggest the emotional contents: Beloved, Celebrated and Safe Heart.
In addition to recent work, Birgit Laken also presents a selection from her oeuvre of the last 25 years, including pieces from the Mokumé Gané series. Her unique adaptation of this Japanese technique earned her international acclaim.

Besides her thematic collections, Birgit also works on multiples, produced in small series in tombac or silver, each with her own uniquely personal signature.
